Retail Sales Shift from Thanksgiving Day and Ebony Friday

Combined sales when it comes to 2 days projected to top $12 billion for brick-and-mortar merchants

CHICAGO – Nov. 28, 2015 – ShopperTrak, the key international provider of customer behavior insights and location-based analytics, these days released its initial sales estimate for brick-and-mortar shopping on Thanksgiving Day (11/26/15) and Ebony Friday (11/27/15). Both dates accumulated a projected $12.1 billion in combined product sales, which can be approximately reduce versus 2014.

Particularly, Thanksgiving Day, a notably questionable day for retail, grossed an estimated $1.8 billion in sales, while Ebony Friday garnered an estimated $10.4 billion in sales.

“This year, we saw Black Friday ads emerge before Halloween, as merchants directed to find the shopper’s wallet early, ” said Kevin Kearns, ShopperTrak chief income officer. “And from our data, we saw better retail product sales created ahead of the Black Friday week-end, which can be a result of merchants effectively elongating the break period. In The End, while many question the continuous relevance of Black Friday, it's still the largest sales day's the year and signals the beginning of the holiday shopping season.”

The two times also saw thinner crowds given that initial figures suggest a reduction in shopper visits on both Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday compared to a year ago.

“Fewer visits on both days reinforce the trend we’ve seen over summer and winter, in which buyers are researching items beforehand, targeting their particular store visits, and showing up in-store aided by the purpose of creating an acquisition, ” included Kearns. “The reduction in buyer visits on Thanksgiving Day in addition lends itself into personal backlash against store spaces on getaway.”

After preliminary figures, ShopperTrak preserves its estimated 2.4 percent increase in sales for brick-and-mortar retail during 2015 yuletide season.

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, ShopperTrak will release a full week-end recap, that may consist of extra details regarding product sales and buyer visits.
