Hennes & Mauritz AB’s U.S. shops will shut on Thanksgiving for the first time, underscoring a move toward a less-frenzied yuletide season for merchants.
The Stockholm-based organization stated in a statement Monday it decided after moving down a new recruitment promotion.
“when you look at the tradition of Thanksgiving, H&M will shut our U.S. shops on Thanksgiving Day, enabling our shop teams to take pleasure from this time with regards to families and buddies, ” Daniel Kulle, president of H&M’s North American functions, said in the statement.
In creating the move, H&M becomes the most recent symbol of holiday discipline among retail stores. After many years of broadening hours and piling in promotions during Thanksgiving and Black Friday - the original kickoff to the xmas shopping period - many shops are now retrenching. Staples Inc. will be closed during Thanksgiving. Recreational gear Inc., the outdoor-gear store, is certainly going more and shutting down during Black Friday.
Wal-Mart shops Inc. and Target Inc., meanwhile, have now been distributing completely their promotions over a longer period. This means shoppers don’t must make at shops on Thanksgiving evening for discounts. Target stated on Monday so it’s planning a 10-day holiday sale that begin on Nov. 22.
